Yahoo Screen’s Android app released, comes with additional programming

Yahoo Screen, Yahoo’s mobile app for streaming video, is now available on Android. Although launched last September, Yahoo Screen had been available only to iOS users.

On a post to the company’s Tumblr account, Yahoo! announced Yahoo Screen on Android:

“The video app that allows you to watch the best Saturday Night Live skits, Comedy Central clips, and more on your mobile device, is now available on Android.”

Yahoo has been quite active lately with programming changes as it was just a few days ago that news was released of Yahoo’s first two original TV series (“Other Space,” & “Sin City Saints”). Both series will have 8 episodes each and will be available on Yahoo Screen, Roku and Apple TV next year.

Recently, Yahoo came to an agreement with Live Nation, who will live-stream 365 concerts over a 12-month period set to begin later this summer, and Vevo, who will bring Vevo’s videos, live concert events, and other original programming to Yahoo’s own video streaming service, Yahoo Screen. Along with the promise of full performances, the announcement also stated that more than 1,000 songs from the live shows will be selected for on-demand streaming throughout the year, and that a wide array of exclusive and behind-the-scenes video with bands are featured in the performances.

Yahoo have also commissioned two Katie Couric-led current affairs shows in the form of Now I Get It (Overview of developing news topics) and World 3.0 (Magazine show focusing on business people). With original programming become the norm with video offerings, it is apparent that Yahoo wants to compete against YouTube, Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Google, Microsoft Xbox and others. Yahoo Screen’s Android app now includes programming from SNL, Comedy Central, The Onion, MLB, Vogue, ABC News and others. Yahoo Screen for Android is here on Google Play.
